This week, I prepared a new story to tell.

Let me take you through my process.

First, I started with a story I enjoyed. I am learning it because it will be part of a new evening program for adults I am developing.

Second, I checked with some Indian friends whether I could tell this story (It’s part of an Indian collection of stories).

Third, I found some other sources for the story online and read them all, some of them out loud.

Fourth, I wrote down the essentials of the story using keywords.

After that, I pressed record on my phone and sent a raw retelling of the story to a friend.

Let’s pause here.

I think telling a story as soon as possible for a forgiving audience (a friend or a partner) is the best way to learn to tell a story.
