Last year, I spent a lot of time gathering Christmas and winter stories on my website.
Let me share some gems I came across.
All these stories are excellent for telling.
I’ve included links to the pages on my blog where you can find summaries and links to the complete text/video.
1. The Man Who Hated Christmas
I love how the wife of a guy who hates Christmas finds a way to give him a perfect gift: a white envelope on the Christmas tree.
What I like even more is that this true story about giving still lives on today.

2. The Set of Poe
There are some classic Christmas stories about the tradition of giving gifts. This one made me chuckle.
It’s about a grumpy book lover who has seen a fantastic set of Edgar Alan Poe books. His wife discourages him from buying them, and he resents her for it.
The plot is really ‘classic’/predictable, but the story shines in describing the thoughts and resentment building in the main character’s head.

3. What to do with Bernie?
Forget Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer; bring on Bernie.
A funny reindeer who finds his calling answering Santa’s phone.
It’s a fun little story for children with a wholesome message.

4. The Little Girl and the Winter Whirlwinds
When I found this fairy tale, I fell in love with it, especially with the little furries that come to the rescue at the end of the tale.
The wicked Winter Witch prevents spring from coming.
A girl volunteers to travel to Father Frost for help. She says: “my warm little heart, full of love, will keep the cold away from me.”
Will it?

5. The Grither
At some point, I am done with the Christmas sweetness. I need something more potent and a little darker.
This scary Christmas story is both funny and bloody. It's a story about a fearsome Christmas monster that will get you if you don’t finish telling its story.
